What is Computer Hardware?


A computer contains two major systems. They are:

  • Hardware
  • Software

Computer hardware is a collection of physical parts of a computer which are physically touchable. There are many types of computer hardware. It can be categorized into two components. They are following:

  • Internal component - Internal components include all the parts inside the computer case such as:
    • Central Processing Unit (CPU)
    • Random Access Memory (RAM)
    • Hard Drive
    • Power Supply
    • Optical Drive
    • Transistor
    • Chips
    • Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)
    • Heat Sink
    • Network Interface Card (NIC)
    • Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports etc

  • External component - External components are also called peripheral components which are connected to the computer to control its output or input. Such as:
    • Mouse
    • Keyboard
    • Memory Card
    • Joystick
    • Touchpad
    • Microphone
    • Camera
    • Printers
    • Scanners
    • Speakers
    • Headphones
    • Earphones etc
