How to Format a Computer?
Formatting a computer means that all data of your computer’s hard drive will be lost and then installing the operating system again so that the computer can be restored to factory defaults.
Step 1: Backup your data
Since you will lose all the data at the time of formatting you should collect all your important files including documents, images, videos, music into a backup location.
Step 2: Setup your BIOS
To set BIOS you have to restart your computer then enter the setup screen when the manufacturer logo is displayed. The key you need to do this is varies by different manufacturer. The most common keys are F2, F9, F11, F12 and Del.
When the BIOS menu open then select the Boot option. Change the order of devices so that your computer can boot form the CD first before the hard drive. Save the changes and exit then your computer will restart.
If you want to install from a flash drive then you have to set the BIOS to boot from removable device or storage.
Step 3: Start setup
Now you have to insert the CD. If the BIOS is set perfectly you can see a message Press any key to boot from CD… on the screen. Now press any key from your keyboard and the Windows setup process will start.
Step 4: Start the setup process
When the process will complete the windows logo will be displayed. Then you have to choose your language, time format and keyboard or input method. Select them and click the Next button. After that a button Install Now will appear. Click the button and setup will start loading the files and it needs to continue.
Step 5: Accept the terms and choose Custom install
To continue the process you have to agree with the license terms. You should read the terms to know the rights and limitation as a user. Then a question will appear Which type of installation do you want? You should choose Custom (advanced) option that allows you a clean installation.
Step 6: Delete the partition
A window will open with a question Where do you want to install Windows? For a clean installation you need to delete the old partition. You would have multiple partition in your hard drive.
You can delete all the partitions on the same drive to combine them all into a single unallocated partition. Click the Drive options (advanced) to display the Delete option.
Then select the partitions and click on the Delete button. If you delete all the partitions then you need to create one before formatting it. Select the unallocated space and click New to create a new partition. You can set the size of the partition. You cannot create more than four partitions on a single drive.
Step 7: Format the selected partition
Select the partition you want to format then click the Format button. If you can’t see the Format button click the Drive options to appear it. You can see a warning that all data on the partition will be deleted. When you agree the format will automatically start. This will take a few moment.
Step 8: Install the operating system
After formatting the operating system will be removed. So you can’t use your computer without installing an operating system again. To install the operating system follow the rest of the command in the setup program after formatting.
