When was the First Computer Invented?

It is not easy to say when the first computer was invented. The computer word first used in 1613. Actually computer word was used to define a human who performed calculations.

In 1822, British mathematician Charles Babbage created the first mechanical computer but for the funding the project was not completed.

In 1837, Charles Babbage proposed the first general mechanical computer which he called the Analytical Engine. It contained an ALU, basic flow control, integrated memory and punch cards. But this computer also never completed because of funding.

In 1910, Henry Babbage (son of Charles Babbage) able to complete a part of this machine which was able to perform basic calculations.

In 1936, Konrad Zuse began to develop a machine named Z1 which is considered as the first electromechanical binary programmable computer.

In 1936, Alan Turing proposed the Turing machine that became the foundation for theories about computing and computers. It is considered as the first concept of a modern computer.

In 1943, Tommy Flowers developed the Colossus which was the first electric programmable computer. It was created to help the British code breakers to read encrypted German messages.

In 1937, the ABC was begun to develop by Professor John Vincent Atanasoff and graduate student Cliff Berry at the Iowa State College till 1942. It was ruled as the first digital computer by the judge.

In 1943, the ENIAC was created by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania till 1946. Though the judge ruled that the ABC computer was the first digital computer but many still consider the ENIAC as the first digital computer because it was fully functional.
