Difference between Baseband and Broadband Transmission


Baseband Transmission: Baseband transmission is a system which send digital signal in a single frequency. The signal transferred from the baseband system always uses the original frequency without shifting or conversion to the high frequency range. Here the total bandwidth holds only one signal at a time. So the reaming bandwidth are not used or wasted in the system. It is a bidirectional system that means it can both send an receive a signal simultaneously at the same time.

Broadband Transmission: Broadband transmission is a system which sends analog signals using different frequency. It carries multiple channel or signal at a time. It supports the FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing ) which the channel into multiple channels and each channel carries a separate signal. It is a unidirectional system that means it can only send or receive a signal in a single time but can not so the both task simultaneously. In a single time only one task is allowed. The examples of broadband transmission are radio station, cable TV network etc.
