How to Transfer Music from iPod to Computer?


In Windows:

  • Connect your iPod to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes.
  • In the iPod management screen scroll down to Options and select Enable disk use. Then you can see a warning. Select Ok.
  • If you get any error message to reformat upon connecting it means your iPod was actually formatted for Mac and cannot be used in Windows. One way to solve it to install a program like MacDrive that will allow your Windows to read the Mac formatted drives. Click on reformat to erase your iPod.
  • Go to My Computer and open iPod drive.
  • Go to Tools then open Folder Options. Click the View tab and check the Show hidden files and folders option.
  • Then open iPod_Controls > Music. Select all the folders and copy them in your computer.
  • Select all the folder again and go to Properties. Uncheck the Hidden option.
  • When the files are copied the music are successfully transferred to your computer.

In Mac:

  • Connect your iPod to your computer.
  • Launch iTunes.
  • In the iPod management screen scroll down to Options and select Enable disk use. Then you can see a warning. Select Ok.
  • You can see your iPod as a drive on your Mac.
  • But before accessing its file you have to download a software named Houdini. It allows you to see the music folder which is automatically hidden by Apple.
  • Open Houdini. Click Folders > Reveal.
  • Now locate your iPod. Go to iPod_Controls select Music and click Choose.
  • Then open iPod_Controls > Music. Select all the folders and copy them in your computer.
  • When the files are copied the music are successfully transferred to your computer.
  • If you see that the songs names are in four letter and scattered among many folders then don’t panic. It’s not a problem. When you import the music into iTunes the program will restore the name of the songs.
